Coaches - Jason Delasalle - Throws

Jason is a long-time mulit-event athlete who became involved with BC Blind Sports in 1988. In 1992 he moved to Burnaby from Tumbler Ridge in order to be coached by Don Steen. He competed in Provincial, National and World track competitions, including the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games, before retiring from active competition in 2004.

This is Jason's third season as a coach with Royal City Track. His knowldedge of and natural ability to teach throws, jumps and hurdles will continue to be a valuable asset to the club's young athletes.

 

 

Coaches - Frances Hanson-Monnie - Sprints/Hurdles

We are pleased to have Frances back for her second season as a hurdles and sprints coach for Royal City. Frances began her running career with the Coquitlam Cheetahs when she was 9 years old. There she trained under Percy Perry. While a BCJD, she achieved many top tens. She continued her track career through high school, where she specialized in distance hurldles, along with sprint hurdles. Frances also competed in back to back BC Games in 1997 and 1998.

 

Coaches - Margaret Stewart - Track Rascals

This is Margaret's third season leading our popular Track Rascals group. Her infectious enthusiasm and energy are a perfect match for our growing group of 6 to 8 year-old athletes who are constantly on the move! With a program based on the Run, Jump and Throw model promoted by B.C. Athletics, Margaret teaches the youngsters the basic skills needed for most sports activities, including track and field. Games and relays are added to the mix to round out the sessions.

 

Coaches - Sean Dixon - Distance

Sean is a long time avid runner and past president of Royal City Track. He has and continues to run in many half and full marathon distance races himself.  He has served with the club for the previous five years in various capacities, including coaching our athletes in mid-level distance training and cross-country. Sean has level 1 coaching certification for track and field. His continous encouragement to our athletes and dedication to the club are valued assets to Royal City Track.

Coaches - Krassimir Velkov

We are very excited to have Krassimir Velkov join Royal City Track. Krassimir began his running career in elementary school when he was 8 years old. At the age of 12 he started his professional trainig and competition experience at one of the prestigious sports high schools in his native Bulgaria. Krassimir became a top competitor in Bulgarian national competitions and was a provincial champion several times.

He continued his career through the National Sports Academy in Bulgaria, where he obtained a B.Sc in track and field coaching,  B.Sc. in physical education and a B.Sc. in physiotherapy. To further broaden the scope of his knowledge and skills, he obtained a certificate in classical and Chinese massage as well as a certificate for being a track and field official. In Canada, Krassimir has become a BCRPA certified fitness instructor. The Royal City Track and its athletes are very fortunate to have someone of Krassimir's vast knowledge, experience and skills become available to them for the upcoming season.

 

Coaches - Zoltan Sara - Jumps coach

Zoltan is a valued member of our coaching team, and is about to enter his third season with Royal City Track. His international training and competition has given him valuable experience which he has earned him credibility and respect. Still an excellent jumper, Zoltan has found a home with our club to train our young jumpers and is starting his fourth season as jumps coach.

 He was a member of the Hungarian National Juvenile Track and Field Team, the 1992 Hungarian National Juvenile championships silver medalist and the 1994 Hungarian National High schools Championships Gold medalist. His PB was in impressive 204cm (1996). Most recently he was the Canadian masters 2007 gold medalist. He is a patient and intelligent coach who gets the most out of his young athletes.
