Coach's Corner - Training Tip

Remember that as you start training not to expect every run to be better than the last one; some of them (runs) will hurt or make you feel sore.
  • Remember that you will have plateaus in your progress and tough days along the way. But
  • It gets easier!

    Coach's Corner - Sean's Training tip

Mix-up your training plan. Make sure your training plan is not too heavily focused on one thing. No matter what level of runner you are your training plan should include four essential elements: endurance, speed, rest, cross-training

    Competition day Focus

As an athlete one of the most important aspects of your personal training is to focus on the task at hand. Before your event competition you should be going over in your mind what you need to do to achieve a great finishand or personal best. The power of positive visualization can be an important tool for your success.

    Coach's Corner - Leah's coach's tip # 2

Proper warm up and warm down for competition:

For a track meet you need to be sure to develop a proper warm up and warm down to help you be your best. A warm up should consist of a light jog (2 laps) and then some active stretching, like we do in transition.  Then hit the bathroom, take a drink and get your spikes on.

After your race you want to take your spikes off and go for an easy 2 lap warm down. This helps your body recover from the race effort.

    Coach's Corner - Consistency

    Leah Pells:

"Consistency is vitally important in track and field training. By this I mean that the most consistent or regular athlete at practice always makes the best athlete, as they always get the most regular amount of training and fitness.  So even on days when you don't feel like practicing, come out anyways and do your best. Being consistent will help you out in whatever sport you are doing."
