Up Coming Events:
Seniors - The Kajak’s Spring Meet and the Zone 4 Trials for the BC Summer Games are in Richmond May 8th and 9th. We have 4 seniors competing in this meet – Hannah D, Natasha L, Colin D, and Simon R.
Best wishes to you all at this meet and all other upcoming ones as well!
JD - Currently, Claire Filafilo (cfilafilo@shaw.ca) is taking registrations for the Junior Olympics, being held May 22, 23rd in Bear Creek Park, Surrey(please get registrations and payment to Claire before 8 pm on Tuesday, May 12th). This is a great meet, and club coaches will be available to the athletes to assist them in their events. We are looking for an excellent turn out from all club athletes and will try to arrange relay teams for as many athletes as possible. Please see Coach Sean about relay teams ASAP!
Track Rascals – All Rascals are encouraged to participate in the Junior Olympics on May 22, 23rd in Surrey. There are 4 events for the Rascals, and the children can gain a sense of competing without being judged (there are no times or distances recorded). RCTF entered a large Rascals contingent last year and the kids had a great time. Bring a picnic lunch and clothes for the Water Park and playground which are right beside the track. Please see Coach Margaret ASAP for more information.
We will also be undertaking our first Personal Best night for the Rascals on Monday, May 10th. All parents should plan on showing up to assist, as we will be timing and measuring each athlete at a series of 4 events. This is not a formal competition and the children will not be ranked against one another. Rather, we use these times and distance to provide each child with a baseline so they can see how much they have improved when we do it again on June 23rd!

Club News - PENTATHLON NEWS
Our club did very well at the BCJD Pentathlon Championships, held July 18th in Coquitlam. We had five athletes represent the club, and all did the club proud. Samuel Nygard competed in the 12-year-old boy's category, and against some tough competition finished ninth, only 50 points out of eighth. Simon Rokeby competed for the first time this year and impressed with a sixth place finish in the 14-year-old boy's division. Harry Baraba, 11, made a strong run in the 800 metre event to finish in the money, eighth over all. Our other 11-year-old in the meet, Fraser Stewart-Barnett, made an amazing comeback from nearly fouling out early in the high jump, to roar back and win the gold medal by a mere three points. Natasha Lazecki, in her final pentathlon, had another stellar performance to clinch a place in the all-time top ten and capture a bronze against intense competition. Well done everyone!
Club News - TRACK NEWS #2
It was a successful first track meet of the season for club veteran Natasha Lazecki at the Kajaks High School Track Meet held in Richmond on May 9th. Lazecki, 13, was competing against girls one and two years older than her. However, she performed at a high level, winning two silver and a bronze. The silver medals came at 800 metres and long jump, in which she shattered her previous PB by almost 50 cm and finished at 4.78 metres. She was also able to claim a surprise bronze in the shot put with a strong final 'put'. Great effort, Natasha.
